alano Posted November 21, 2005 at 07:08 AM Report Share Posted November 21, 2005 at 07:08 AM Hello all...I'm 36 in Orlando and have done a lot of work in Hong Kong the last 5 years. I'm trying to find a tutor/teacher of Mandarin or Cantonese in the Orlando area. Anyone know of any groups or tutors? Hoping to find student or non-professional to keep cost down. Any help would be great! Thanks!!
woliveri Posted November 22, 2005 at 04:34 PM Report Share Posted November 22, 2005 at 04:34 PM Hello alano, When I was in Orlando there wasn't much available. Nothing in the Community Colleges and private classes were expensive. However, Orlando does have a Chinese American Association but with a search I couldn't find info on it. It was meeting somewhere in Winter Park If I Remember Correctly. See if you can find this group. You could also look around UCF to see if you can find someone there who needs English Help. I'm in California and I've hooked up with many Chinese wanting to learn English and have English practice so we have a Language Exchange (I get help with my Chinese and I give them help with English) so it's free. There are many Chinese people over here who are interested in this type of exchange. Perhaps you can find a few people there as well. Because of your situation, you could also get help online. Go to: http://www.chinadaily.cn http://bbs.chinadaily.com.cn/ http://bbs.chinadaily.com.cn/forum.shtml?fid=H46 Post your contact information (a hotmail account) and that you want to make friends and you'll get a lot of replies. Then you can use MSN to chat in Chinese and then create a Voice Chat session. Then you can use SKYPE to have a voice session chat as well. There are a lot of free sources available to you to hold you over until you can get something going in Orlando. Unfortunately you've landed in an area which is kinda sucky for learning Chinese. However, keep looking and you'll find some people interested in teaching Chinese or Learning English. Hope this helps, bill
