Problems with CJKOS on Palm

burned

Recommended Posts

Im having some problems with CJKOS on my Palm Z22. When I try to use it in conjunction with SuperMemo it only displays the last character. Its also all messed up within AvantGo. In the documentation it seems to insist that turning on the "Fix Messy Display" will deal with these issues but it doesnt seem to.

Is it a problem with the Z22 or is it something I havent setup correctly?

SuperMemo was having all sorts of problems with my Chinese text for along time until I made sure my files were only in GB, in Unicode or UTF 8 it would make my Palm crash continuosly.

Essentially I really like supermemo for vocab, but maybe I'll have to switch to plecodict...

Advice?

thanks,

Alex

I'm not sure why you are having trouble with Supermemo, but here are a few hints:

  • You are right about GB. I use GB18030 and it works fine.
  • Which fonts did you load for CJKOS? Make sure you have the low-res fonts installed. The cards display at low-res during text and high-res when you edit them.
  • FWIW, I have Fix messy display checked. I also have the following checked:
    Enable CJKOS
    Char Set: Cinese GB
    Display: Auto
    Smart Detect Char Set
    Add Horizontal Spacing in CJK
    Sort Records in CJK
    Align
  • Just for a sanity check, see if you can enter characters in the Supermemo program. You don't want to do it that way regularly but it will at least establish that CJKOS is working.
  • Try installing the attached database. It has questions for learing a poem and is short. If it works then the problem may be on the PC end.
  • Are you trying to use both Simplified and Traditional? Unless you have long strings of characters the auto-detection to handle both won't work well.
