xiaocai Posted January 11, 2006 at 05:43 PM Report Share Posted January 11, 2006 at 05:43 PM Here's a Chinese version of periodic table: click Its not vary hard. The nomenclature it very similar to the English system and quite straightforward. For those general chemical substances, you can just search with wiki. amego Posted January 12, 2006 at 07:35 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2006 at 07:35 PM its not difficult...haha...its just opposite of english...硫 liu2 is sulphur, and 氧 yang3 is oxygen...treat the 化 hua4 as -ide, meaning 氧化 becomes oxide, so we have two oxide sulphur, presto! you have sulphur dioxide! so, following this rule, we have 二氧化碳...碳 tan4 is carbon, so two oxide carbon will yield carbon dioxide! of course, carbon monoxide is 一氧化碳...thats all just for fun, DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is 脫氧核糖核酸(tuo1 yang3 he2 tang2 he2 suan1)!!!! wat a long name, but its easy too...脫氧(deoxy) 核糖( ribose) 核(nucleus) 酸(acid)...there you go!!! Koneko Posted January 13, 2006 at 11:06 AM Author Report Share Posted January 13, 2006 at 11:06 AM Thanks!! Can we also translate DNA as Gene in Chinese? :-)
amego Posted January 13, 2006 at 02:09 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2006 at 02:09 PM well not quite =p DNA refers to the molecule (more of chemically) while gene is the trait that is associated with the gene (biologically)...so 脫氧核糖核酸 is one and 基因(gene) is another...
