sputnick Posted January 19, 2006 at 09:29 PM Report Share Posted January 19, 2006 at 09:29 PM i'm posting here looking for a volunteer to edit our mandarin vocab module. (i developed a free, multilingual vocabulary memorization system.) adding a module is easy, the only problem is that because chinese doesn't use the roman alphabet, every word will have to be entered twice, once in chinese characters (simplified?) and once in transliteration. by the way, so far we have english, japanese, german, polish, etc but no mandarin yet. more info here and click on the Chinese flag. native speaker only please! for students still learning mandarin, hold on, as soon as the mandarin module is up, y'all will be able to use it to memorize basic vocabulary (1500 words). patience! nick p.s. this forum is great, i'm happy i found it. i added a link to my links page. Ferno Posted January 20, 2006 at 04:35 AM Report Share Posted January 20, 2006 at 04:35 AM what do you mean? There are many programs/applets that let you convert Chinese characters into alphabetic pinyin (with tones)...
geraldc Posted January 20, 2006 at 05:11 AM Report Share Posted January 20, 2006 at 05:11 AM You have a Hong Kong flag and a Taiwan Flag, I don't see the Chinese flag.
sputnick Posted January 20, 2006 at 06:22 AM Author Report Share Posted January 20, 2006 at 06:22 AM You have a Hong Kong flag and a Taiwan Flag, I don't see the Chinese flag. oops! you're right. i mistakenly used the taiwan flag for mandarin. the problem has been fixed. i replaced the taiwan flag, the communist flag now links to mandarin. nick

There are many programs/applets that let you convert Chinese characters into alphabetic pinyin (with tones)... ah, i didn't know that. do they also work for compound words consisting of two characters or more? if so, great - whoever does the mandarin module would only have to enter the word once, and a script could be run later to add the romanization. i might need help with the script, though nick
Ferno Posted January 20, 2006 at 07:42 PM Report Share Posted January 20, 2006 at 07:42 PM hmm (test) [pop=tomorrow/míngtiān]明天[/pop][pop=you/nǐmen]你们[/pop][pop=go/qù]去[/pop][pop=where/nǎli]哪里[/pop]? when you reply, look to the left under Adsostate "Add pinyin and English pop-ups. " yes the two syllable words are automatically recognized.
