Hello...often a country has another name in Chinese, reflecting certain characteristics of the country. Heres a small list. Anyway they are used ALOT in news and newspaper.

Singapore 新加坡>>>狮城 shi1 cheng2 "Lion City"

China 中国>>> 神州 shen2 zhou1 "Deity Continent"

Taiwan 台湾>>> 宝岛 bao2 dao3 "Treasure Island"

Hong Kong 香港>>> 东方之珠 dong1 fang1 zhi1 zhu1 "Pearl of the Orient"

Japan 日本>>> 东洋 dong1 yang2 "Eastern Sea"

They really add flavour and colours to the country  Feel free to add on. Does anyone know the other name for Korea?

Anyway another thing is a special name for "following the trends of Japan and Korea", normally we say "跟随日本/韩国的潮流。" gen1 sui2 ri4 ben3/han2 guo2 de chao2 liu2

But its "哈日 ha1 ri4" and "哈韩 ha1 han2" respectively. "他很哈日/哈韩。ta1 hen3 ha1 ri4/ha1 han2" "He's so into Japanese/Korean fashion." Well I haven't hear any for other countries. Anyway you can add a 风 feng1(wind, also means style, trend, culture) to these 2 words to turn it into a noun.

"现在正刮起一阵哈日/韩风。xian4 zai4 zheng4 gua1 qi3 zhen4 ha1 ri4/han2 feng1 " "There's a Japanese/Korean wind blowing now." "There's a craze for Japanese/Korean stuff now."

我觉得这只是 "Singapore" 的本义。

China 中国>>> 神州 shen2 zhou1 "Deity Continent"

I believe this to mean "prefecture" (州), not continent (洲). 另外还有中华,华夏,九州。

Hong Kong 香港...

Taiwan aside, few people consider this a country.

"Korea" once was 朝鲜 but now this only means the North.

韩风, sometimes they call it 韩流,韩国流行文化(Korean Pop Culture)。 韩流 is like 寒流,very contagious and spreading fast.

Oh yeah, they often say it as "一股韩流" yi4 gu3 han2 liu2 a surge of Korean Pop Culture.
