请教:addressing people in mandarin

louis

Recommended Posts

Hi, this is my first post,

I have realized that there are many different word to address people in mandarin:

  • some indicate job titles like 老板、老师 for example,
  • some indicate family relationships, but also extend to friends sometimes as 叔叔、姐姐 etc..
  • some indicate only age, as 小姐

and there are many more out there!

Does anyone know where I could find a list of them, explaining their proper use?

Do you know which ones are appropriate to use at work?

just on the topic' date=' what do you call the wife of a professor?

is there one for the husband of a professor?[/quote']

If you are close, than you can call her 師母. Otherwise I think you just call her Mrs X. I think I would simply call the husband of a professor Mr X.
