miso, Soy paste

They are both fermented soy pastes, but apart from that basic similarity in processing, the results can be quite different

Miso is the Japanese form and usually tastes quite different from the Chinese pastes (of which there quite a variety).

You should buy a jar of each and find out for yourself how they taste.
