grashopa99 Posted October 19, 2011 at 02:34 AM Report Share Posted October 19, 2011 at 02:34 AM Anyone have recommendations for short stories to read? I'm thinking really short if we can find one pagers. I'm a beginner so while I can search on 小说 and find websites I can't easily navigate to stuff that might be interesting. imron Posted October 19, 2011 at 08:21 AM Report Share Posted October 19, 2011 at 08:21 AM If you're a beginner only looking for one-pagers, you're probably better off with something like the Chinese Breeze graded readers (search the forums for more info). Also, just for future reference, 小说 usually means novels so searching for that in Chinese won't help you find what you want. 短篇小说 works better for short stories. miss_China_so_much Posted October 19, 2011 at 08:41 AM Report Share Posted October 19, 2011 at 08:41 AM Short stories in Chinese? Do you have any preference? I used to subscribe <小说月报> and <收获>, two literature magazines with good short stories and novellas. Not sure if they still exist

edelweis Posted October 19, 2011 at 04:18 PM Report Share Posted October 19, 2011 at 04:18 PM have you read the University of Iowa collection thread? the texts are fairly short. [edit] The Chinese Stories Platform has actual short stories, a bit longer though.

Ludens Posted October 21, 2011 at 07:58 PM Report Share Posted October 21, 2011 at 07:58 PM If you don't mind reading children's stories you might like: http://www.tom61.com/ertongwenxue/ The stories aren't geared towards foreign learners, but are all quite short (2-5 pages). I find them quite enjoyable, and it's one of the easiest to read "native Chinese" sites I've found.

alanalian Posted October 22, 2011 at 12:40 PM Report Share Posted October 22, 2011 at 12:40 PM I think you can search 寓言故事 or 童話故事 in Baidu.com These are for Chinese children and the language would not be too complicated. Most of them are free and suitable for beginner.

student Posted October 27, 2011 at 11:08 AM Report Share Posted October 27, 2011 at 11:08 AM Here is a link to a short previous thread which had some information about 小小说, as well as a very short (164 character) example (and a joke): http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/14652-%E5%B0%8F%E5%B0%8F%E8%AF%B4-chinese-short-short-stories/ Also there is a book of chinese short short stories in translation, "An Anthology of Chinese Short Short Stories", http://www.amazon.com/Anthology-Chinese-Short-Stories-Panda/dp/7119038818/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1319714368&sr=8-2 It isn't too hard to find at least some of the originals on the web...
