春晚 Chinese New Year Show - build-up and live watching

Caught some of this at the airport last night.  Song - dance routine - song - dance routine - comedy sketch - song - song - song -song - dance routine - song.  God they love singing.  I had the misfortune to be tuned in for that horrible mini-robot dance routine.

I didn't catch the end of it.  Was there a montage of 习大大 looking at/holding babies?

We watched the show yesterday, according to my wife it got much worse than some years ago. Much more politic, and praising the party and the country with every act.

Plus it got really boring, after some time we started to play cards instead of watching the show.

Now we are watching the Beijing new year show. Much much better! The jokes are funny, much less politic if it all. The songs are also much better!

A number of CCTV executives, hosts, and reporters have been locked up in the current anti-corruption crackdown. They are rumored to be allied with the Ling Jihua/Zhou Yongkang/Bo Xilai faction. So it may be that they are bending backwards to show their loyalty to Xi Jinping.

自5月31日上午央视财经频道(央视二套)总监郭振玺突遭吉林省检察院逮捕,央视内部风声鹤唳,李勇和芮成钢都有“将要出事”传言。

Someone here mentioned the Beijing New Year Show and today I viewed a FaceBook post of a video from the Liaoning Chunwan. So the Chunwan on CCTV is not the only one? Each city has its own? I'm trying to see if I can view any of them online.

In my cctv wechat feed it says that usually the gala is held at the CCTV building in Beijing but this year it is being held in 5 different locations, Beijing, Hulun Buir, Quanzhou, Guangzhou, and Xi'an.

One from each north, west, east, south and central, the usual 5 points on a chinese compass "to represent the diversity of the 56 different ethnicities".

There is lots from the gala here http://english.cntv.cn/special/2016springfestival/index.shtml

I think they mean the gala itself is filmed in five locations so doesn't answer my question. I was thinking most provinces have their own televised galas, because it seems that Liaoning had their own.

Each province has its own gala on the first day of the new year. The Beijing one was shown on BTV (Beijing TV). There are mainly Beijing people on that show, some of the big sports teams sent people (football, basketball, etc) Much better than the new years gala!

I prefer the Beijing show. Its been better for several years now. I only watch the CCTV one as in UK I can get CCTV 4 on my big TV so I can suffer the whole thing.

bagua, that's exactly what I was looking for! This is awesome. Loved how the guy plucks a pipa and tosses it into the throng of performers behind him :-)

I watched a few of these on TV and especially liked the Jiangsu one - the whole thing has Chinese subtitles and made a huge difference in understanding for me.

I found a link to it on Letv:

The Hunan one is on right now here (On Talentvision in Canada). I recognize some of the presenters from the Beijing one.
